RECIPE: Hibiscus Lemonade with Butterfly Pea Flower


  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 cup dried butterfly pea flowers
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and hibiscus flowers for garnish (optional)


  1. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Add the hibiscus and butterfly pea flowers and let them steep for about 10 minutes.

  2. Strain the flowers from the water and pour the liquid into a pitcher.

  3. Add 1 cup of fresh lemon juice to the pitcher and stir well.

  4. Add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the pitcher and stir well until the sugar is dissolved.

  5. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until it's completely cooled.

  6. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the hibiscus lemonade over the ice.

  7. Garnish with lemon slices and hibiscus flowers if desired.
