This year, Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, marking seventy years of service and dedication to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
Did you know that Her Majesty's favourite tea is Earl Grey without milk or sugar, served with chocolate digestive biscuits? Thank you, @missjanice_14, for that info.
Some teatime rules to follow:
- No slurping. Obviously! Could you imagine The Queen doing that? Members of the royal family cannot slurp their tea.
- Hold the teacup correctly, using your index finger and thumb to grasp the handle and your middle finger to support the bottom of the cup.
- No sticking out the pinkie finger either. Your hand flexibility may not be there when you are correctly holding a teacup, and your pinkie may be extended as a result. I’ve never paid much attention to how I hold a teacup, and it's likely that my pinkie will naturally stick out. But for royals, it’s a big no-no.
- Sip from the same spot on the teacup every time. This is especially important for women, as they don’t want to have lipstick stains in multiple places.
If you ever have a chance to sip tea with anyone in the royal family, please let me know how you do with following these rules.
Your bestea,
Leila
